INTASC Standard: Standard #10: Leadership and Collaboration
The teacher seeks appropriate leadership roles and opportunities to take responsibility for student learning, to collaborate with learners, families, colleagues, other school professionals, and community members to ensure learner growth, and to advance the profession.
Brief Description of Evidence:
As party of my Education and the Community course EDUC 200 taken the spring semester of 2014 at Ivy Tech Community College I created a literacy night. I collaborated with the vice-principle, art teacher, and parents in the community whose children I teach to develop a comprehensive and educational literacy night at our school. I created five stations using the theme of Super-Hero’s.
Analysis of What I Learned:
Leading and developing the literacy night provides me the opportunity to engage students and their families on a level that continues to support and grow the student’s education. The students benefit from the literature but, they see the collaborative efforts of school professionals community members, and parents supporting their learning growth.
How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the INTASC Standard:
Developing a project of my own expands my collaborative skills and promotes positive pedagogy in the teaching profession. Taking responsibility for the learner growth on a collaborative level ensures learner growth and continues to reinforce positive engagement outside of the classroom.

Quick review of the night and encouraging thoughts to complete any activity not finished.
Station one (20 minutes)
Mr. Ray’s classroom will have a wide variety of comic books to choose from. Choose any you would like to read. You may read to a parent, sibling, grandparent, guardian, or to yourself. Respect the comic books, treat them if they were your own and keep Mr. Ray’s room clean.
Station two (20 minutes)
The vice-principal has volunteered to be the mediator in the role playing activity. She has developed story lines for you to act out. There are some costumes if you want to use them but, you do not have to wear them. You may “Improv” (add lib) upon the vice-principal dialogue. I am sure she will enjoy that. Have fun!
Station three (20 minutes)
The art teacher has volunteered to assist you drawing your super-hero. It may be tedious for some of you but, do not give up. The activity will take place in the art room. You will be using pencils, colored pencils, rubbing your fingers on the paper, and the love of your super-hero. All of the supplies needed are there. Be respectful of her room and of the materials you use.
Station four (20 minutes)
In the gym you will find iPads for you to animate your super-hero. There are several apps loaded on the iPad to animate with. You may save your animation and email it to yourself. Get whoever brought you involved in making your animation. Yes, grownups have good ideas. Be careful and respectful of the iPad's we want to make them last a long time. Do not forget to save!
Station five (20 minutes)
Creating your own story line for your super-hero is no different than any other story. Ask questions, talk to your grown up, be creative, and think outside the box. Your super-hero could be the anti-virus running in your computer, when hungry your super-hero brings you healthy food, or cures diseases. You will be using the iPads to write your story lines. Be sure to save your document and email it to yourself!
Summary (30 seconds to one minute)
I want you to save all of your stuff. That way you can put it all together at a later time, if you want. I hope you enjoyed yourself. Let’s eat.
